Happy New Year! May this new year bring you abundant love, health, and peace. This is the year of new beginnings numerologically speaking (2+0+2+6 = 1) full of creative power, and a year to let your individuality shine bright.

We start the new year with a massive full Moon in sidereal Gemini conjunct benefic planet Jupiter, reminding us to stay connected to the light, and to look at the bigger picture as there’s always a silver lining present. The January full Moon is known as the Wolf Moon because wolves were heard howling during the long, cold nights of January in many cultures.

Abundant in wisdom, revelation and information, this full Moon brings a necessary reality check, and much needed truth that may be difficult to accept at first but ultimately is freeing. Jupiter with the full Moon carries an expansive mindset rather than a limiting one. Be open to truths that may not fit the status-quo or the narrative of the media.

Coincidentally, the full Moon is in the portion of the sky belonging to Ardra, ruled by Rudra “the howling deity”. This is a very intense full Moon.

In the Ṛig Veda, Rudra is a storm and wind deity whose presence is heard before it is seen, through howling winds, thunder, and piercing cries. His name is linked to rud (“to cry, howl, or roar”), reflecting both the terrifying sound of storms and the primal cry of life and pain.

This howl is not merely destructive; it is purifying and transformative, breaking apart ignorance, and ego. Ārdrā holds a sad connotation as its symbol is a teardrop, but it ultimately leads to renewal, and rebirth. The saying “what doesn’t kill us makes us stronger” is very fitting here.

With Mercury in Mūla and the full Moon in Ārdrā, it activates the Śiva axis, signaling shocking revelations meant to uproot false beliefs and illusions. Though destabilizing, this axis ultimately leads to radical truth and liberation. It may coincide with sudden shocking world events. At the same time, a Sagittarius stellium (Sun, Mercury, Venus, Mars) strongly emphasizes higher truth, justice, and belief systems.
